Welcome To Orange County Mustang Club

Sign the petition to support SB1239 Gaines to exempt vehicles 1980 and older from unnecessary and costly smog inspections.  The California Legislature has preiously recognized that annual smpg checks should not be required for autos that are so old that virtually all remaining vehicles are owned and operated as collector and classic cars.  Prior to 2004, there was a thirty year rolling exemption - that is, any vehicle whose model year was older than 30 years were exempt from teh annual smog inspection.  In 2004, the Legistlature moved the exemption date to 1976.
As collectors of older model cars, Association of California Car Club (ACCC) members believe the 1976 date is arbitrary.  There are models built after taht date that are still popular to this day such as late seventies and early eighties Corvettes, Mustangs, and Mopars.  There are few of these cars that were made thirty years ago, but they are well taken care of and driven sparingly and do not impact the environment negatively.
Requiring a costly smog inspection only adds to the already high cost of owning such a vehicle.  The association of California Car Clubs and the SEMA Action Network would like to expand the date to 1980.
Classic and collector cars & trucks are a unique part of California's history.  This bill will offer a common-sense way to encourage that these vehicles remain on display for all to see and enjoy.

Club History

In 1987 a group of individuals who appreciated the beauty and performance of the Ford Mustang joined together to form the Orange County Mustang Club. Their purpose was to promote the restoration, preservation and enjoyment of the Ford Mustang. To perpetuate this goal, members pay yearly dues, promote car shows, hold social activites, take cruises, attend parades and other activities to foster their love for the Ford Mustang. Any person who owns or appreciates the Ford Mustang, no matter what model or year, is welcome to join. Ownership is not obligatory, but enthusiasm is!
